Wedding Venue Gilbert AZ – The Falls

Wedding Venue Gilbert AZ – The Falls

There’s a great new event and wedding venue Gilbert AZ has that’s worth a notice, and we’d like everyone to know about it. It’s called The Falls Event Center and we think it’s just beautiful! Arizona wedding photographer Robbie Carpenter recently visited there and was able to apply her distinctive style of specialized light writing, putting their name in lights. First she wrote outside at one of the entrances,

and then went to over to the waterfall they have on the south side of the grounds.

The Falls in Gilbert Arizona – Wedding and Event Center

It’s so gorgeous there at The Falls in Gilbert. There’s all kinds of event space, with rooms for meeting, bridal preparation and dressing rooms, even a rooms just for the guys. There’s a game room, movie theater and more. Even the bathrooms are nice!

Outside there’s patios and waterfalls, and the building is beautiful and new. It’s actually a state of the art facility that seems great for a wide range of events such as wedding, parties, and corporate gatherings. With convenient freeway access and ample parking, it’s easy to see why this is a great place.

The best part is they allow your choice of vendors (like us!), allowing customization for you with every aspect of your event. I can’t even imagine why a person looking at an event venue would choose a location that dictates choices like Photographer, Disc Jockey, or Videographer, let alone details like food, cake and flowers. It’s your event, and should be done your way. This is one of many reasons why 3 Oceans Entertainment is not alone in recommending a closer look at this fine facility when considering an event in Gilbert.

Arizona photographer Robbie Carpenter can create a specialized digital image for  you using her light writing photography. Her repertoire includes hearts, the words “love” and “thanks” or “thank you”, and she’s been known to write custom last names, as long as they’re not too long! Please consider us for Photo, DJ, or Video services in Arizona.

WeddingWire Winners 8 Consecutive Years

We are WeddingWire Winners for the 8th straight year in a row

WeddingWire Winners 8 Consecutive Years 2009-2016

with the Couples’ Choice Awards – previously known as the Bride’s Choice Awards – for our DJ, Photography, and Videography services in and around Phoenix, Arizona.

This is especially significant for a good reason. Although many AZ wedding vendors claim this award for a year or more here and there, very few have the distinction of winning the award every single year back to the very first time these awards were issued in 2009. In fact, 3 Oceans Entertainment is one of only 9 Arizona wedding vendors who can say this.

WeddingWire Winners 3 Oceans Entertainment website
3 Oceans Entertainment – Event Wedding DJ Photo Video services in AZ

Just for fun, let’s break this down. Looking at the winners in all categories and in all markets nationwide is a lot of effort resulting in a huge number, so let’s just look at the Phoenix, AZ market and focus on Wedding Photographers, Videographers and DJs.

This year there were 153 award winners in those 3 categories. Very cool if you’re one of them, and understandable that a company’s PR person might feel compelled to brag about it, especially if it’s the first time.

Now let’s go back to 2009, when this same program was named “Bride’s Choice Awards” and there was only a total of 63. That’s a little different story. How many of these 63 carried through with an unbroken winning streak all the way to present? The answer is 9. They are:

  1. 3 Oceans Entertainment – DJ, Photography, and Videography
  2. Ray the DJ – DJ
  3. Ray Mar Productions – DJ
  4. Face the Music – DJ
  5. Birkett Entertainment – DJ
  6. Bill Limbach, The DJ for You! – DJ
  7. AZ Celebrity DJ – DJ
  8. All-American DJ – DJ
  9. Pinkerton Photography – Photography

There were no Phoenix AZ Wedding Videographers who made the list, and only 1 Photographer. Congratulations to these 8 other Arizona wedding vendors, who deserve recognition for honor in an increasingly crowded field. 9 companies specializing in weddings in the Phoenix area with a positive and proven track record over the last 8 years is a very small number indeed.

Why would a Bride and Groom even consider someone else? An insured professional with great rates and outstanding service is the way to go when considering Phoenix AZ wedding vendors, and WeddingWire winners 3 Oceans Entertainment are worth a look.

Scottsdale Arizona Wedding

What a grand time everyone had at the Scottsdale Arizona Wedding of Russ and Lida La Rose.  We were so fortunate to be involved as their Photographer, Videographers and DJ MC, working together as a team at one of the most enjoyable Scottsdale Arizona Weddings that we have ever participated in.

Electricity was in the air as they arrived at Ancala Country Club and began preparations to be married; so much that not only could the people feel it, but the surroundings also, as it bounced off the walls and even their wedding rings.

Cameron and Robbie, along with associate Stevie, were so happy to be invited to the Wedding of Yesenia and Evan in Fountain Hills to provide photography and videography services.  We had such a great time with them, and are happy to share their wedding here.

The day began with a First Look when Yesi, all dressed up and ready for marriage, had a secret surprise for her handsome fiancé Evan.

Gay Friendly AZ Wedding Vendor

3 Oceans Entertainment is very clear that we are a Gay Friendly AZ Wedding Vendor.  We have always felt this way.  However, one always has to tread carefully when dealing with the media, who as a whole often seem to have one sort of agenda or the other.  Here’s what has been happening with us lately.

Pete Suratos of ABC 15 News in Phoenix contacted me to comment on a new piece he was reporting on concerning SB 1062, the supposedly controversial pending legislation concerning an exemption to allow discrimination.  By “supposedly,” I simply mean that the only real controversy is why this ridiculous bill has not already been given a gubernatorial veto.  The current numbers are somewhere between 70 to 95 % against, so how about a little representation of the will of the people here, huh folks?

Anyway, the “powers that be” in the news room were certainly looking for opposing viewpoints, but just couldn’t find any by airtime, so a little clever editing makes it almost sound like I support the bill.  Enough that I got a phone call the following morning from a producer up the line who asked if that meant I would go on record in support.  Uh, NO…but you can add me to the overwhelming majority of decent people who would never validate another excuse to discriminate and hate.

Still, it was fun to be on the evening news and at least my wife squealed with excitement when she saw her silly husband on TV.  That part was worth it to me right there.  Here’s a link to the news video:

3 Oceans Entertainment on ABC 15 News Phoenix Arizona

In fairness, the reporter kept looking in the right direction after this and asked if I knew anyone who had been directly affected by this so-called religious discrimination.  Why yes, we just worked with a great Phoenix couple who were not only told “no” by a cake baker, but then lectured about their depraved lifestyle, etc.  Rebecca and Molly were very brave to go on TV to discuss this and we are very proud of them.

They got a lot of flak and hateful comments on the internet right away, (of course!) the 24 hour news cycle marched on, and life goes on.

We’ll be working on a new video with Becca and Molly to promote awareness for Anti-Bullying Safety Classes at the Kidzone with the upcoming Phoenix Pride Festival.  Stay tuned for more.

Wedding photography Arizona style is so rewarding when you are spending a wonderful wedding day with a remarkable couple, unique in their own special way, who share a deep and abiding love for family and especially each other. 3 Oceans Entertainment had such a blast with Brittany and Tony at Estrella Vista Reception Center in Avondale, AZ for their marriage, in attendance with DJ and Photography services.  Robbie Carpenter was lead photographer and used her observant eye for dimension and light to gather and hold on to several exceptional moments preserved using natural perspective balanced with gentle creativity. Here she demonstrates solidity set against fluidity with “Ring Splash”

Steve and Trisha Cornell Wedding Video Highlights by 3 Oceans Entertainment at Sedona Golf Resort

We were so happy to perform Arizona Wedding Videography and DJ Services for a great couple.  Steve and Trisha Cornell got married in Sedona at Sedona Golf Resort, and 3 Oceans Entertainment was lucky to be there as AZ Wedding DJ and AZ Wedding Videographers.

It was a beautiful sunny day with sunshine as a prevailing theme, with lots of love and laughter.

Our friends SJA Studios were there to Photograph; as always Steven Aquilino did a great job and took good care of the Bride and Groom.  The cake was made by Sedona Sweet Arts and was yummy!  Mountain High Flowers made it beautiful with floral arrangements, and the Officiant was even a treasured friend of the family!  Katie Draxler and her staff at Sedona Golf Resort did such a fantastic job, as they always do, bringing it all together.

3 Oceans Entertainment used a fresh, modern style to showcase Trisha and Steve as a couple, and also our videography style at this very moment, in September of 2013.  Please click on the link through the photo to see a 13 minute sample of the Trisha and Steve’s Sedona AZ Wedding Video, and other videos posted on our 3 Oceans Entertainment YouTube Channel.

Sedona AZ Wedding Cinematographers

Sedona Wedding Cinematographers

We are featured Sedona AZ Wedding Cinematographers on the destination weddings website Borrowed and Blue at www.borrowedandblue.com/sedona

Taken from their website, “from majestic Arizona weddings set amongst beautiful red rock canyons, to rustic chic weddings at gorgeous resort spas, your Sedona destination wedding is sure to deliver oodles of natural splendor and sun-drenched Southwestern landscapes.”

Cinematography is modern Videography

Cinematography is a variation of the term videography that is being used more lately to be set apart from your Grandparents wedding video.  Many folks still have a picture in their head of a boring VHS tape that was watched once and now sits in a dusty old shoebox until it crumbles, however most people know that modern wedding videography involves rich colors and great sound with chapter points to watch individual parts or the entire wedding movie at your discretion.  Multiple HD cameras and carefully crafted editing in a digital format create a product that can be enjoyed many times and shared with future generations.

It’s also important to note that often a wedding videographer will decide to provide a finished product that is a very short (20 minutes or so) highly condensed overview of the wedding day, even after spending considerable time at the event collecting raw footage.  This is partly a stylistic choice and partly due to the enormous file sizes of High Definition Video.

3 Oceans Entertainment prefers to use a different technique than most.  As Phoenix, Scottsdale and Sedona AZ Wedding Cinematographers (statewide service for DJ, Photography and Videography in Arizona,) we like to start with an opening montage including establishing shots of the venue and look of the day, some getting ready scenes, and other special moments set to a song or two that is added into the background.  Then the ceremony in its entirety including the natural sound, which is the real audio captured with wireless and shotgun microphones plus camera audio, so the spoken words, music, and audience sound is all clearly heard.  Often the license is signed next.  The photo shoot that happens over the next hour or so quite often gives us footage to create another montage section set to added music.  These montage sections take the place of an overly trimmed highlight by allowing a short section or two to show folks who don’t want to watch the whole wedding movie.  After that, the other formal events such as First Dance and so forth are captured as they unfold, and presented with reductions of the repetitive sections such as open dancing.  Sometimes the Bride and Groom would like to hear and see recorded Best Wishes and these are included in a separate section if desired.  It’s all put together to be interesting and watchable, often around an hour and a half to two hours in length – plenty long to include all the action, but not so long that the viewer loses interest.

On the production side, two or more HD video cameras are used, to provide the ability in editing to switch back and forth between angles and increasing face time.  Many locations have limitations on movement, and even if they did not we prefer to work without distracting guests.  The backup in case of mechanical or technical difficulty is comforting as well, especially in the context of event videography that cannot be recreated with the option of yelling “cut” and “take two!”

Good audio is critical, and the combination of multiple feeds in post production is the best way to achieve this.  Words, sound, music and images all come together to paint a magical picture.

Wedding Videographers in Arizona

Wedding Videographers in Arizona

We’ve been getting a lot of calls lately for wedding videographers in Arizona, but not necessarily for the best of reasons.  One particular urban wedding company promised much and delivered little.  Then they took the money and ran, and violated the trust of unfortunate engaged couples who believed in them.  They have now disappeared, and the wedding industry is better for their absence.

Meeting with an AZ Wedding Videography Photography DJ Company

The story begins over a year ago, when I got an email from a person I knew as a wedding videographer to meet with him and hear about a proposal he had for me.  He wouldn’t discuss it on the phone, other than to say it was a “great opportunity” that I “would not want to miss out on.”  I decided to set aside the time to hear what he had to say.

After arriving at the time and place he designated, I was greeted with a big phony smile and introduced to a colleague of his who supposedly had flown in from California just to meet with me, or at least that is what I was led to believe.  The hair on the back of my neck was already beginning to stand up when the wedding videographer (we’ll just call him “Thad”) said that his friend (we’ll just call him “Mr. Creepy”) was there to observe, and for the remainder of the meeting Mr. Creepy just sat there with a disturbing look on his face listening intently as Thad went through his passive/aggressive presentation.  I later learned that I was not the only one to receive the sales pitch that day, but that’s beside the point.

He began by complimenting me on what a great job I was doing as a wedding and event DJ, and my wife and I as wedding videographers in Arizona (he was not aware of the fact that we had already branched out into wedding photography) while pointing out that his company dominated the wedding business in Arizona and were taking over nationwide with Mr. Creepy.  Apparently there would be no room for other wedding vendors after their plan to take over, and this would be my only chance to get in on the ground floor with them.  He noted the accolades and awards that my wife and I have gathered in our almost 10 years in business, and even acknowledged that he was aware of my ability and dedication.  He then warned me it was all about to come to an abrupt end unless I went along with his offer.  Cue dramatic music bum-pa-bum!

Mr. Creepy smirked at me when Thad said they had a plan to expand their power and that basically any Videography, Photography, or DJ job in any state they were doing business would go through them as brokers.  He claimed to have a crack team of SEO experts who would insure that their website would be the only one seen on Google.  The only perceived threat to them was WeddingWire, and the strategy there would be simply to buy out all of the top spots to gain preferred placement.  Besides, he figured that any potential client looking at them would be crazy to go anywhere else.  I guess they figured there was no such thing as free will in the marketplace.

The Offer

Here’s where I fit into their plan.  I would close my business, 3 Oceans Entertainment, and surrender any existing or future jobs to them.  In return, I could be the DJ manager for the state of Arizona.  They would lowball the price to get all the available work in the state.  He claimed they had all sorts of DJ talent in California waiting to fly out to Arizona to fulfill the jobs.  When I questioned this, he actually said “we can get all the chumps we need because they are desperate for work.”  They would collect the deposits from clients (half up front,) pay the DJs a pittance, and give me a salary to insure that everything went smoothly.

He thought that they already had all the videography and photography jobs wrapped up for themselves, and expanding into domination of the DJ field would be their next logical step.  He pointed out that I would not be able to get any more wedding video, photo, or DJ work on my own, as that would all be going to them now.

He may have said some other outrageous things, but I was already done listening and looking for a way out.  I may be old-fashioned, but I believe honesty and integrity mean something and there was none to be had here.

As I was leaving, I remember Thad saying we would be out of business as soon as they implemented their plan, and this would be the last chance I had to join their team.  Shortly afterward, I saw their ads begin to appear on the internet and their website promising the best DJ, Photography and Videography service for the lowest price.  It appeared their conquest had begun.

The Trouble Begins

I’ll admit they took a lot of work away from us for a while.  I would call or email with prospective Brides and Grooms who told me they decided to book with another company offering a great deal.  They had already put half down on a deposit and were convinced they were choosing the right vendor to help with their special day.  I worked alongside this company on a few occasions when the couple had chosen us for one service and the other guys for another.  I even had a few of their independent contractors tell me about all the money they were going to make with this wedding company.  They had been promised to be paid well for their hard work, although most of them had yet to receive payment for their services.

The Kicker

Then it came.  They collected as much money as they could while paying out as little as possible.  They kept people happy until they decided to strike.  Suddenly they were gone!  Phone disconnected and no response to emails, no-show at contracted events and no recourse for customers.  They seemingly disappeared off the face off the earth, but apparently indicated to WeddingWire that “they are no longer in business.”  According to multiple complaints, the money is gone and the clients have been left high and dry.  To add insult to injury, their many website listings now redirect to porn websites.  Ouch!

The Good News

The good news is that the previous story is an extreme and unfortunate example, as most reputable companies want to do a good job and maintain a positive reputation after your event. A legitimate business has little interest in legal difficulty, but the sad fact is there are bad guys out there who are more interested in pulling a fast one. Fortunately, there are several measures that can be taken to minimize the risk.

First is using a contract signed by both parties. It does not necessarily need to be complicated, but should include the basics of date, time and location of event, and terms. It should also include a clause concerning what will happen in the event of illness or unforeseen circumstances that would prevent performance.

Second is working with an established business that has a history measured in years, not months. The longer a business has been around, the more likely they will be there when your event comes around.

Third has to do with integrity, which can often be indicated by reputation. Personal recommendations from friends and family are great. In the absence of that, online reviews from a trusted and verified source can be quite helpful. On a side note, many brides and grooms review a group of vendors after an event, so looking for a set of reviews on a certain date can be a good idea.

Another good line of defense is using a credit card for the deposit payment. Disputes can be mediated through your credit card company and often resolved to your benefit if your vendor does not show up to your event or has otherwise nefarious intentions. PayPal offers some measure of protection, but is currently limited to 45 days from the transaction date.

3 Oceans Entertainment is still here after surviving the battle with “Thad Moerber of Urban Wedding Company.”  We have wedding videographers in Arizona, as well as photography and DJ services for weddings and events in AZ.  We’ve been operating with quality, honesty and integrity in the Arizona wedding industry for over 10 years, and are thrilled to have been involved in the weddings of over one thousand happy couples.  We respect marriage and people, offer great services at fantastic prices, and fulfill the promises we make.   Please consider 3 Oceans Entertainment for your wedding and event DJ, Photo and/or Video service needs in Arizona.
